Aside from an episode of the Simpsons, pop culture references to the Cincinnati Bengals cheerleaders have been few and far between. But that will soon change, the story of the oldest cheerleader in NFL history, 42-year-old Cincinnati Ben-Gal, Laura Vikmanis, is coming to the silver screen. Think “Bring it On” meets “Hope Floats” meets “The Blind Side.” I think.
New Line green-lighted the story of this southern Ohio dietitian and personal trainer, which is even more media friendly than it sounds.
By Paul M. Banks
According to Cincinnati.com
“a former dancer, Vikmanis first tried out for the Ben-Gals at age 39 after her husband left her and her sister suggested she find something that made her happy, according to the article. The mother of two teen daughters failed in her first tryout but made the squad after spending a year working out and practicing routines. She has been a Ben-Gal for the past two years.”
This isn’t the only story involving a cheerleader, Cincinnati, and a multi-media production. You may have heard of Taylor Corley, the former Mississippi State cheerleader who was did a spread for Playboy. She’s now pursuing a reality television career, and the pilot, entitled “Girl Swag” is set in Cincy and will premiere on VH-1 or MTV.
